New Director for ZAMCOM

The Zambia Institute of Mass Communication Education (Trust) Board has appointed Mr. Oliver Kanene as the new Director of the institute. Mr. Kanene brings to ZAMCOM a wealth of media and development communication experience. He has worked as a senior Journalist at Zambia’s daily newspapers. He spent nine years at Evelyn Hone College of Applied Arts and Commerce as senior Lecturer and Head of Journalism Department.

A graduate of the University of Tampere in Finland and a 2011 Fellow of AVAC: Global Advocacy for HIV Prevention of New York,Mr. Kanene has worked in several programming and development communication capacities  including the US Peace Corps as Associate Director; the John Snow Training Inc./USAID Support to HIV/AIDS Response in Zambia (SHARe) Project as Communication Specialist; the Zambian Government/World Bank Social Investment Fund (ZAMSIF) as Communication Specialist;  the Centre for Development Cooperation of Finland (KEPA) as Information Officer, CARE International as Evaluation & Participatory Research Coordinator among others.

ZAMCOM Open and Distance e-Learning Programme

The Open and Distance e-Learning in Journalism has been adopted as provision of the extension of tertiary education programme through e-Learning.

This is a platform that ZAMCOM has established in order to offer Diploma programmes using distance learning, online and e-learning tools. The Institution will offer two Journalism qualifications and these being; Journalism, Public Relations and Agriculture Journalism.

 

Media Learning Resource Centre and Media Partnership

The Zambia media partnership was established in 2008 between the Zambia Institute of Mass Communication (ZAMCOM) and the University of Kentucky College of Communications and Information Studies. The partners are working together to establish a Learning Resource Centre (LRC) at ZAMCOM.  The LRC will become a resource hub for journalists and media students in Zambia. By providing access to the internet, computer-based information resources, latest research findings and reports on HIV and AIDS, the LRC represents a free-flowing channel that any reporter can use on daily basis to obtain the information they need.
